Day 8: Biking in Siem Reap Area

“A bad day on a mountain bike beats a good day in the office”

Last night we went to the 60 street night market and ate, well, I’m not exactly sure what we ate. We wandered through the market and our eyes and ears were bombarded.  It was a bit like being at the Beachburg fair, but with scooters and motorcycles buzzing by, and on a Monday night, in Cambodia.

Today we got up early and went on a biking tour of the Siem Reap suburbs/countryside with Grasshopper Tours.

Our tour guide Hank was fantastic! All told we biked for 20-25kms on dirt roads which were red like the sand in Prince Edward Island. Beautiful.

First stop: farm house where they were making banana rope
Kids at recess saying hi to Clara
A little rest in a thatched roof hut in the middle of a lotus flower farm
Hammocks everywhere in the hut
Clara in a field/bog of lotus flowers
Cole just saw a man tilling a field with a hand held tractor-style tiller
The market where we ate Cambodian donuts
Market stall
Roads of red earth

Then we swam, the kids tried fried ice cream, we took shelter in a market during another half hour rain storm, and then to top it all off we went to see a movie.

This is our last day in Cambodia. Tomorrow morning we are leaving for Thailand. We have had a wonderful stay in this beautiful country.
