“There is the hidden presence of others within us, even those we have known briefly. We contain them for the rest of our lives, at every border that we cross.” Michael Ondaatje
Today we went for a fantastic hike from Kibune to Karama. The hiking part took a couple of hours, but the getting there (trying to sort out the correct trains = ack!), getting back, and the meal along the way (prettiest place we’ve ever eaten outside the Ottawa valley – literally a platform over a waterfall) made for a full day. It was really beautiful! Alternating toriis and waterfalls all along the path. And best of all, no crowds.
The kids are getting a bit tired of having their pictures taken, but it’s hard not to want to record a day like today. That said, we have seen so many selfie sticks, so many people fixing their makeup, looking for the best angle, that it does make you wonder if people are really enjoying themselves, or if they’re just there for the selfie…. but then, I feel the need to take another picture, and realise that I am one of “them”.
